About the Role

High Street Surgery, Epping, has an opportunity for a receptionist to join our team on a part-time basis for 20 hours per week on Wednesday and Thursday 8.30am – 6.30pm.

There is more to our receptionist roles than answering the phone and making appointments.  In this essential front-line role at the practice, receptionists help patients to access the right services, assist with keeping health records accurate and up-to-date, and ensure that appointment bookings are well-managed.

The main responsibilities of the role include:
  • Greeting and directing all patients;
  • Making appointments and giving out appointment cards, where required;
  • Accepting, issuing and handing out prescriptions, letters, completed forms, specimen bottles, etc.;
  • Dealing with requests for information, and managing problems and complaints;
  • Advising patients of practice procedures;
  • Registering new patients;
  • Answering the telephone, promptly.

About the Candidate
We are looking for a receptionist to join our busy practice team and help make a positive impact on our local community. We would welcome applications from organised, adaptable, and friendly individuals, who are keen to help us provide high levels of customer service and have the following attributes:
  • Excellent communication skills, with a clear and polite telephone manner;
  • Ability to work in a polite, confidential and discreet manner, respecting patients at all times;
  • Experience of working with the general public, being sensitive and empathic in distressing situations;
  • Confidence to work as part of a team and ability to "think on your feet";
  • Strong IT and administration skills;
  • Previous medical or healthcare receptionist experience is desirable.
  • Knowledge of SystmOne would be an advantage.
Some flexibility is required, as you will sometimes need to work additional or alternative hours to cover for colleagues.
About Us

Our team consists of 1 GP partner supported by two salaried GPs, 1 ANP, 2 practice nurses and 2 HCAs. We also have a variety of support staff from our PCN consisting of social prescribers and pharmacists, soon to be joined by a dietitian and a health and well-being coach. We also have an ANP who specialises in respiratory disease, an FCP and the local midwives have regular clinics in the surgery. The clinical staff are supported by our reception team, secretary, administration clerk and practice manager. We are a SystmOne practice and hold regular clinical meetings, staff meetings and MDT meetings involving our community services.
