About the Role

Glemsford Surgery is currently looking for a medical secretary to join our team on 12-month fixed-term contract, to cover maternity leave. The role is offered on a part-time basis, working approximately 24 hours a week.  It is essential that applicants can work on Mondays, but we can be flexible around the other days.  The core hours are 10am - 4pm, but, again, we can be flexible within reason around this, for the right candidate.

The purpose of our medical secretary role is to provide general medical secretarial support to the doctors, nurse practitioner and practice nurses, involving word processing and audio typing along with general clerical work. The post-holder will also undertake non-routine activities which may be delegated by line manager, consultant staff or other members of the multidisciplinary team.

Core responsibilities of the role include:

  • Management of routine, urgent and two-week wait referrals;
  • Completion of secretarial administration including firearms applications, medical records requests and administration of private GP work;
  • Management of the secretaries' voicemail and email inbox;
  • Failsafe tracking of two-week wait referrals.
For further information about the role, please see the attached job descriptions.

About the Candidate
The ideal candidate will be an experienced SystmOne user with medical secretary experience. Knowledge of local referral frameworks would also be beneficial but is not essential.

For full person specification, please see the attached documents.
