About the Role
Newport Pagnell Medical Centre has an opportunity for a prescription clerk to join our busy administration team, at the heart of our patient care service.  This role is offered on a  part-time basis, for 26 hours per week over five days, Monday to Friday.
 
The post-holder will process prescriptions and provide an efficient and safe system of medication reviews, liaising with all relevant parties, including face to face, phone contact and emails with patients, clinicians and other healthcare professionals regarding medication queries.
 
The main responsibilities of the role include:
  • Understanding the electronic prescribing system within the practice.  
  • Processing repeat prescriptions on a daily basis, ensuring compliance with the practice protocol.
  • Handling weekly prescriptions for vulnerable patients and dealing with the queries related to these.
  • Ensuring all prescriptions are signed by a GP, ready for collection within 48 hours from time of request and ready for daily collection by the local pharmacies.  
  • Performing regular searches on drugs requiring monitoring, hence minimising the risk of adverse effects. 
  • Ensuring that all current medication has relevant, current authorisations.
  • Promoting cost-effective prescribing at the practice.
  • Dealing with prescription queries.
  • Dealing with medication changes from hospital letters.  
  • Ensuring that medication pack sizes are correct and amending where necessary.
  • Any other responsibilities that may arise as part of this role.

General practice experience and knowledge of SystmOne would be an advantage.
