About the Role
Newport Surgery has a fantastic opportunity for an experienced practice nurse to join our team on a part-time basis, with the hours to be discussed at interview.
 
The main duties include:
  • Undertaking health assessments, administering medication & treatments, & performing diagnostic tests.
  • Providing & evaluating a range of health interventions to ensure that patients’ health & social care needs are met.
  • General health & well-being promotion as well as creating individual, person-centred plans for patients with, or at risk of, a long term condition.
  • Managing & treating long-term conditions, in line with national & local policies & the practice needs.
  • Reviewing medication for therapeutic effectiveness, in accordance with evidence-based practice as well as national & practice protocols; working with patients to support their adherence to prescribed treatments.
  • Prioritising health problems & intervening appropriately, to assist the patient in complex, urgent or emergency situations, including initiation of effective emergency care.
  • Supporting & managing the health needs of women presenting for sexual health & contraception, & cervical cytology consultations.
  • Implementing, & participating in, vaccination & immunisation programmes for both adults & children, including patients travelling abroad
  • Meeting the needs of patients presenting for opportunistic wound care.
  • Hypertension review & management.
  • Running asthma, COPD & diabetes clinics & reviews.
  • New patient & health checks.


About the Candidate
All applicants should have the following qualifications, registrations, skills and experience:
  • A relevant nursing degree.
  • Current NMC registration with an active PIN.
  • Fundamentals of Practice Nursing course (General Practice Nurse Foundation Programme) or equivalent experience or qualifications.
  • Competence to undertake asthma, COPD and diabetic clinics and reviews, holding relevant certificates.
  • Evidence of clinical skills and experience in treatment room consultation, phlebotomy, ECG recording, screening, management of long-term conditions, cervical cytology sampling, vaccinations and immunisations, assisting with minor surgery, dressing and wound care, and recording spirometry.
  • Compassionate manner with an empathetic approach and demonstrable kindness in all aspects of your work.  The successful candidate will value the dignity of our patients, their relatives and carers, as well as their colleagues at the practice.
  • Knowledge, and experience of its application, in supporting long-term conditions.
  • Insight and understanding of current issues in nursing and the wider NHS.
  • Knowledge of the EMIS system would be an advantage, but training will be given to the right candidate.

About Us
We have 2 GP partners, 2 practice nurses and 2 HCAs. We care for a patient list size of approximately 9400, in a friendly rural community.
