About the Role

Harvey Group Practice is currently looking to expand their busy reception team and recruit a receptionist, to support the heavy workload and pressures in primary care. Training will be given.

  • Schedule: Monday to Friday
  • Expected hours: 30-37 per week
  • Work location: In person
  • Job type: Full-time, Permanent

The role:

  • Receive and make telephone calls as required. Divert calls and take messages, ensuring accuracy of detail and prompt appropriate delivery
  • Ensure an effective and efficient reception service is provided to patients and any other visitors to the practice
  • Deal with all general enquiries, explain procedures and make new and follow-up appointments.
  • Action requests received from patients and local pharmacy team received by email
  • Enter patient information on to the computer as required
  • Provide flexible cover for members of the reception team during periods of sickness and annual leave
  • To be responsible and resourceful whilst working under pressure. To remain calm along with the ability to work as part of a busy team having a flexible and co-operative approach to work

On arrival at the practice all personnel are to complete a practice induction programme; this is managed by the reception manager.

About the Candidate


  • Customer focused, with an eye for detail and a welcoming manner
  • Previous experience of working in a busy customer facing service
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Reliable/proven attendance record
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Attention to detail


  • Experience of working in a GP surgery
  • Experience of using EMIS clinical software
  • Experience of working in a patient facing role
About Us

We are a busy, large training practice with 7 GP Partners and 5 Salaried GPs based in central St Albans and also with a branch site at Jersey Farm. Shifts will principally be at Jersey Farm but will include working at both our surgeries. With a list size of approximately 14,500 patients, we support an extended clinical team using our premises including pharmacists, physiotherapist, social prescribers and midwives, supporting our patients. You will be joining a supportive, friendly, approachable and committed team. Our clinical system is EMIS Web.
