About the Role
The Burnham Surgery has a fantastic opportunity for a medical secretary to join their team on a  part-time basis, for 15 hours per week on 2 days of the week  - Thursday & Friday.
 
This is an essential front-line role at the practice, providing an efficient, comprehensive secretarial and administrative support service to the practice management team.  The main responsibilities of the role include:
  • Providing a full secretarial service including efficient audio-typing, copy-typing and word processing, for all GPs and health professionals, as required. This includes the typing of letters, reports, patient referrals, meeting minutes, memorandums, etc., in an accurate and quality manner;
  • Handling patient and practice queries, regarding hospital appointments and treatments, confidentially;
  • Ensuring that any requests for information from medical records are appropriately dealt with, according to practice policy, and that all subsequent charges are invoiced appropriately;
  • Arranging meetings (to include the booking of rooms) as required;
  • Designing template letters and forms for use throughout the practice, as required;
  • Maintaining the computer-based clinic system, in an accurate and secure manner;
  • Assisting with the gathering of statistics and information, when required;
  • Performing any reasonable administrative tasks, as requested by the practice manager.

About the Candidate

You will have the following skills and experience:
  • Strong audio- and touch-typing skills;
  • Administrative experience and good organisation skills;
  • Sound knowledge of medical terminology;
  • Proficiency in the MS Office package, as well as excellent general IT skills and experience of working with a clinical system;
  • Experience in read-coding and work-flowing clinical documentation;
  • Ability to 'think on your feet';
  • Excellent communication skills and a friendly approach; 
  • Understanding of the need to maintain confidentiality and data security, at all times;
  • Ability to multi-task and to work accurately under pressure;
  • Ability to work as part of a team, as well as being comfortable working independently.

About Us
  • Rural based practice with 9,700 patients. 25% of patients over 65 years old.
  • Practice covers several rural communities. Limited but regular bus and train service. We are approx. 45min-1 hour away from the nearest Accident and Emergency Dept
  • 3 GP trainers on site. With additional part-time partner and 1 salaried GP
  • We currently are a training practice and we currently have 3 registrars and Medical Student Year 1 & Year 3-4 LIC students. We also have had nurse trainees.
  • Our GPs specialise in dermatology, cardiology, diabetes & women’s Health
  • We have 5 nurses, 4 HCAs, secretaries, care navigators and admin staff are always happy to help or assist in anyway.
  • Affiliated with the surgery we also have clinical pharmacists, a paramedic, first contact physios, a midwife, social prescriber and community agent who work on the premises and off site.
  • Practice is open 5 days a week 8am – 6.30pm. Surgery offers extended access evening and weekend via the PCN.
  • We offer in addition to general medical services - LARC & implants, 24 hr ECG & BP monitoring, anticoagulant monitoring and phlebotomy. As well as being a distance from A&E we are often the 1st call when there has been a minor injury.
