About the Role
Combs Ford Surgery in Stowmarket are actively recruiting for a care navigator to join our team on a part-time basis.  Working hours will be; Monday 8am to 6.30pm, Tuesday 1pm to 6pm and Friday 1pm to 6.30pm. 
The role is extremely varied and you will be a key part of the team ensuring each and every patient can access the services we provide.
 
Main responsibilities will include;
  • Respond to all queries and requests for assistance from patients and visitors at reception ensuring at all times that enquires from patients are efficiently and courteously handled.
  • Ensure that telephones are at all times answered promptly and politely at all times, accurate messages taken and calls passed to the appropriate person as necessary, supplying information as required in a timely fashion.
  • Ensure that scanning, filing, record keeping and distribution of documents are undertaken efficiently and promptly.
  • Use the surgery computer system for appointments, patient data, repeat prescriptions and other patient related tasks.
  • Collect any necessary information from the patient for their consultation, deal with any enquiries and provide any information the patient may need.
  • Record requests for house calls, ensuring accurate details are taken and print off visit summary.
  • Assist with new patient registrations together with inputting their necessary data onto computer and making up new files/amalgamating and process amendments to patient records.
  • Advise patients of relevant charges for private services, accept payment and issue receipts if necessary.
  • Cover duties of absent members of staff as and when required including cover during tea/lunch breaks at reception as and when required.
  • Any other clerical/reception duties as deemed appropriate and requested by senior receptionists or line managers.
  • Offer general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors either in person or via the telephone.
  • Facilitate effective communication between patients and members of the healthcare community.
  • Handle patient complaints in accordance with practice protocols.
  • Provide an efficient and accurate support to the secretarial team, clinicians and patients.
About the Candidate
General practice is a challenging environment that requires a calm and caring approach with the ability to work under pressure. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated team player who has customer service/patient experience, offers excellent communication skills, and has the following attributes:
  • Experience of working with vulnerable people. 
  • Preferably experience within a healthcare or general practice setting. 
  • Ability to work in a polite, confidential and discreet manner, respecting patients and colleagues at all times.
  • Experience of working with the general public, being sensitive and empathic in distressing situations.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Strong IT and administration skills, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Previous medical or healthcare receptionist experience is desirable.
Some flexibility is required, as you will sometimes need to work additional or alternative hours to cover for colleagues.
