About the Role

The Island Surgery in Canvey are looking for an enthusiastic practice nurse who is a team player, to join our friendly, caring and innovative multidisciplinary team. This position is offered on a part-time basis with hours discussed at interview as we can be flexible for the right candidate. Extra days available ad-hoc to cover holidays and sickness.

You will be supported by our GPs, ANPs, practice nurses, HCAs, pharmacists, ECPs, and our PCN, and we encourage a healthy work life balance. We provide a happy working environment and specialist interests and professional development will be supported.  We welcome new ideas and thrive on innovation.

We will support you in providing a high standard of patient care, and you will have excellent clinical skills.

The main responsibilities of the role include:

  • Undertaking health assessments, administering medication and treatments.
  • Providing and evaluating a range of health interventions to ensure that patients’ health and social care needs are met.
  • General health and well-being promotion as well as creating individual, person-centred plans for patients with, or at risk of, a long term condition.
  • Managing and treating long-term conditions, in line with national and local policies and the practice needs.
  • Chronic disease management.
  • Childhood immunisations and vaccinations.
  • Cervical cytology and sexual health, contraception.
  • Wound care.
  • Health promotion.
  • Infection control.

About the Candidate

All applicants should have the following qualifications, registrations, skills and experience:
  • A relevant nursing degree.
  • Current NMC registration with an active PIN.
  • Strong clinical skills including experience of chronic disease management, childhood immunisations, vaccinations, cervical cytology, sexual health, contraception, wound care, health promotion and infection control.
  • Knowledge of SystmOne would be advantageous. 
  • Knowledge, and experience of its application, in supporting long-term conditions.
  • Insight and understanding of current issues in nursing and the wider NHS.

We are a busy, effective and well-organised GMS practice with currently one GP Partner,  and regular locum GPs.
We have streamlined processes, an excellent reputation, and are located in modern, purpose built premises in the centre of Canvey, with good transport links via the A13, A127 and M25.  
 
Our patient list is  6800 and we have a ‘Good’ CQC rating and a high achievement for QOF.
