About the Role

Mendlesham Medical Group (Mendlesham Health Centre & Manor Farm Surgery) has an opportunity for an enthusiastic and proactive care navigator/receptionist to join our friendly team  on a part-time basis for 28 hours per week on 4 days

Reception is a vital part of our practice and plays a key role in supporting patients to access the right service at the right time. The post holder will provide a professional, welcoming and efficient service to patients, both face-to-face and via the telephone, while supporting the wider practice team with a range of administrative duties.

Main responsibilities include:
  • Welcoming patients and visitors to the practice and logging arrivals on the clinical system.
  • Answering the telephone promptly and dealing with patient enquiries in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Care navigating and signposting patients to the most appropriate clinician, service or member of the team.
  • Booking appointments and accurately recording information on the clinical system.
  • Supporting patients with new registrations, temporary patient requests and general practice information.
  • Scanning, filing and processing correspondence onto patient records in a timely way.
  • Handling patient queries, concerns and complaints in line with practice protocols.
  • Supporting day-to-day reception tasks including post, photocopying, and maintaining a tidy waiting area and reception space.
  • Working flexibly across both practice sites, providing cover during annual leave and sickness where required.

About the Candidate

General Practice can be busy and at times demanding, so we are looking for someone who can remain calm, professional and patient-focused, even under pressure.

The ideal candidate will be a motivated team player with strong customer service skills and a confident, friendly telephone manner. You will also be able to demonstrate:

  • The ability to work in a polite, confidential and discreet way, respecting patients and colleagues at all times.
  • Experience dealing with the public, including being sensitive and empathetic in challenging or distressing situations.
  • The ability to work well as part of a team and support colleagues when needed.
  • Strong IT and administrative skills, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Good communication skills, with the confidence to ask appropriate questions and signpost patients to the right service.
  • Previous GP, healthcare or receptionist experience is desirable, but not essential as training will be provided.

Some flexibility is required, as you may occasionally need to work alternative hours to provide cover for colleagues. Applicants should also ensure they live within a reasonable commuting distance of the practice.
