About the Role
Newport Pagnell Medical Centre is looking to recruit patient navigators to join our team.   You will be required to work 21 hours per week between Monday to Friday over four days and be available on the fifth day to provide cover if needed.  You will also be required to cover Saturday morning shifts on a rota basis. 
 
We offer a comprehensive training programme to all our patient navigators where you will initially receive 1-1 training, followed by ongoing support from your trainer and team leaders.  
 
There is more to this role than answering the phone and making appointments.  In this essential front-line role at the practice, our patient navigators help patients to access the right services, assist with keeping health records accurate and up-to-date, and ensure that appointment bookings are well-managed. 
 
The main responsibilities of the role include:
 
  • Greet patients, doctors & visitors in a polite & friendly manner
  • Answer the telephone promptly & courteously
  • Make appointments using SystmOne
  • Administer the procedure for repeat prescriptions
  • Open & sort all the Medical Centre post
  • Ensure the smooth running surgeries and clinics
  • Arrange hospital appointments
  • Receive specimens ready for pathology laboratory collection
  • Deal with general enquiries helpfully & efficiently
  • Collate, sort & deal with paperwork from GPs & other Practice staff
  • Inform patients of test results
  • Support colleagues in maintaining an efficient & friendly team atmosphere
About the Candidate
We are looking for patient navigators to join our busy practice team and help make a positive impact on our local community. We would welcome applications from organised, adaptable, and friendly individuals, who are keen to help us provide high levels of customer service and have the following attributes:
  • Excellent communication skills, with a clear and polite telephone manner;
  • Ability to work in a polite, confidential and discreet manner, respecting patients at all times;
  • Experience of working with the general public, being sensitive and empathic in distressing situations;
  • Confidence to work as part of a team and ability to "think on your feet";
  • Strong IT and administration skills;
  • Strong customer service experience preferable.
Some flexibility is required, as you will sometimes need to work additional or alternative hours to cover for colleagues.
