About the Role

The Derby Road Practice has a fantastic opportunity for a medical secretary to join the team, on a one year fixed term contract required for maternity cover, on a full or part-time basis.

You will be joining a well established secretarial team and will work across both our sites within a busy, often demanding, but highly rewarding environment that strives for excellent patient care.

We are looking for a great team player, who always acts with integrity and professionalism, with excellent written skills, great attention to detail and the ability to adapt letters for clinicians. Previous medical secretarial experience would be preferred, though not essential as training can be provided.

Main duties of the job:

  • Processing patient information (both electronic and paper based) in a timely manner.
  • Liaising with secondary care, community service providers and external agencies in relation to patient referrals and private non-NHS work (i.e. insurance/solicitor reports).
  • Using SystmOne patient system, electronic referral system (e-RS) and DXS referral system.
  • To provide an efficient copy typing and word processing service for GPs and health professionals as required. This includes the typing of letters, reports, patient referrals, etc, with great attention to detail.
  • To retrieve medical records to assist in the completion of medical records requests.
  • To receive incoming and initiate outgoing telephone calls in order to facilitate timely and appropriate communications with others, taking messages and dealing with appropriate queries.
  • To provide cover for members of the secretarial team during periods of sickness and annual leave.
