About the Role

Angel Hill Surgery in Bury St Edmund's has an exciting opportunity for a medical secretary to join our team on a part-time basis, for 16 hours per week.

In this essential role at the practice, you will complete Subject Access Requests (SARs) and medical insurance reports using a system called iGPR, attend meetings regularly and work within a busy secretarial office.

The main responsibilities of the role include:

  • Audio typing using both the word processing system in SystmOne and Microsoft Word.
  •  Typing all doctor correspondence.
  •  Using the NHS Electronic Referral System (ERS).
  •  Maintaining Insurance Medical Reports to current regulations.
  •  Keeping patients/companies informed on progress of medical reports.
  • Processing and distributing electronic reports.
  •  Processing and distributing incoming and outgoing correspondence via NHS Mail.
  • Typing any other practice correspondence
  • Ordering Stationery supplies
  •  Ensuring all secretarial equipment is maintained
  •  Attending and taking record of meetings
  •  Liaising with other health professionals when required.
  •  The Medical Secretary role is constantly changing and duties are added and deleted regularly.
  •  Process documents through Scanning using appropriate Workflow procedure.

Other duties will include;

  • Participate in staff meetings and attend the Head of Departments meetings/Team meetings, MDT meeting and Safeguarding meetings when required.
  • Be aware of and act in accordance with Health & Safety and Fire Regulations of the practice.
  • Keep your training up to date via Clarity Teamnet
  • Complete e-learning annually
  • Any other task requested by the practice manager/business manager or partner to ensure a smooth running of the surgery
  • Attend and participate in team meetings with the practice manager
  • Be conversant with and act in accordance with fire drills and precautions in the working area
  • Adhere to all practice policies
  • Be aware of and act in accordance with the surgery Health and Safety Policy

About the Candidate

To be considered for this position, you will have the following skills and experience:

  • Excellent communication skills, with a clear and polite telephone manner.
  • Confidence to work as part of a team and ability to "think on your feet".
  • Strong IT and administration skills.
  • Previous medical or healthcare Medical Administrator experience is desirable.
Some flexibility is required, as you will sometimes need to work additional hours to cover for colleague.
