About the Role

Mendlesham Medical Group has a fantastic opportunity for an experienced/newly qualified prescribing practice nurse or prescribing paramedic to join our team on a part-time basis for 27 hours per week, worked on Monday, Tuesday and Friday, to assist a supportive, innovative, and well-run rural practice.

The main responsibilities of the role include:

  • Undertaking health assessments, administering medication and treatments, and performing diagnostic tests.
  • Providing and evaluating a range of health interventions to ensure that patients’ health and social care needs are met.
  • General health and well-being promotion as well as creating individual, person-centred plans for patients with, or at risk of, a long term condition.
  • Managing and treating long-term conditions, in line with national and local policies and the practice needs.
  • Reviewing medication for therapeutic effectiveness, in accordance with evidence-based practice as well as national and practice protocols; working with patients to support their adherence to prescribed treatments.
  • Prioritising health problems and intervening appropriately, to assist the patient in complex, urgent or emergency situations, including initiation of effective emergency care.
  • Supporting and managing the health needs of women presenting for sexual health and contraception, and cervical cytology consultations.
  • Implementing, and participating in, vaccination and immunisation programmes for both adults and children, including patients travelling abroad.
  • Meeting the needs of patients presenting for opportunistic wound care.
  • Hypertension review and management.
  • Running asthma, COPD and diabetes clinics and reviews.
  • New patient and health checks.
  • The role will offer you the opportunity to build on your experience of working effectively within a multi-disciplinary, healthcare team, as you will work alongside fellow professionals within the practice in support of one another.

About the Candidate

 You will have the following skills and experience: 
  • Be a registered paramedic, with current HCPC registration, ideally with some being in primary care;
  • Have completed ENP/ ECP Minor Injuries and Minor Illness course Level 6 and be a ALS/APLS provider;
  • Be able to effectively assess, plan, treat and refer patients;
  • Be able to evaluate patient care confidently;
  • Have experience of working to protocols and guidelines;
  • To exhibit excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills;
  • Have the ability to make clear decisions with confidence and communicate these effectively;
  • Understanding of the need to work within the parameters of one's own training and capability, according to the Health and Care Professions Council;
  • Experience of autonomous practice working and multi-professional team working;
  • Can demonstrate a broad and sound knowledge of complex and common conditions in primary care in both adults and children.
