About the Role

Barrack Lane Medical Centre has an exciting opportunity for a hardworking, enthusiastic and innovative Pharmacy Technician to join our Medicines Management team at Barrack Lane.

This role is offered on a full-time basis and will work within a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals to manage medication queries, support the delivery of safe and effective systems and cost effective prescribings. Pharmacy Technicians are also involved in the management of patients with LTC who require monitoring of their conditions and medication.

The main responsibilities of the role include:

  • Supporting the GP partners on prescribing projects and cost/safety audits and actions
  • Managing patient prescriptions
  • Supporting medication reviews and reconciliations
  • Advising patients and healthcare professionals on medication-related queries
  • Developing our prescribing systems to ensure safe, effective and efficient 
  • Supporting the reception and administration teams with complex medication queries
  • Supporting the GP partners on prescribing projects and cost/safety audits and actions
  • Minimising medication wastage
  • Processing hospital letters and discharge summaries issuing new medication for sign off by GPs.
  • Ensuring medicines which require a Shared Care Agreement have an agreement in place. 
  • Updating and maintaining EOL drug charts and drug charts required by Community Teams for administration of insulin/zoladex
  •  Advising clinicians when manufacturers are not supplying certain medications so that patients are not prescribed medication that is out of stock and actioning alternative requests when prescriptions are not available where appropriate
  • Researching medication list from non UK national patients to check the English version/equivalent

About the Candidate

We are looking for an experienced working as a qualified Pharmacy Technician in community pharmacy, hospital pharmacy, primary care, care homes or another relevant medicines-related setting.
 
You will have the following: 
  • Registered pharmacy technician with the GPhC
  • Hold a Diploma Level 3 in pharmacy services, or equivalent
  • Strong experience in either a community pharmacy or a primary care setting
  • Confident in analysing and presenting information to health professionals
  • Experience of implementing and promoting cost-effective strategies
  • The ability to interpret complex clinical information and present it in suitable formats, to a variety of people from professional and non-professional backgrounds
  • Experience working under clinical supervision and within standard operating procedures
  •  Experience supporting safe, effective and efficient use of medicines.
  • Experience dealing with patients, carers and healthcare professionals in person, by telephone or digitally


About Us

Barrack Lane is a busy practice in the town centre of Ipswich, Suffolk.  We have a diverse  practice population of over 20,500 patients. The practice is based on two sites, the main surgery in the centre of the town, and a branch surgery at Stoke Park. 

Our clinical team is made up of GP partners, salaried GPs, advanced nurse practitioners, advanced care practitioners, paramedics, physicians associate, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and a practice nursing team and HCAs.  This team is supported by a strong administrative, coding and care-navigating team.

Barrack Lane is part of a PCN (Primary Care Network) with Ivry Street Medical Centre, in Ipswich, and the two practices cover a population of 32,000 patients.  The PCN allows the practices to share resources and offer an enhanced service to our patients.  The PCN employs care co-ordinators and social prescribers to work with patients, especially our vulnerable patients, to help them to access the best care.
