About the Role

Burlington Primary Care are seeking to welcome a Primary Care Paramedic/ Emergency Care Practitioner to our team on a full or part-time basis, specific hours to be agreed, but these may be between 7.00am to 6.30pm, Monday Friday.

This role will report to our Mentor GP Lead and will work alongside a team of paramedics and clinicians. This role they will be supported by a clinical lead who will develop, manage, and mentor them.

Responsibilities will include;

  • Chronic disease management - undertake clinical assessments, diagnostics, and treatment either in the practice or at a patients residence
  • Provide diagnostics, including normal and abnormal findings to relate them to a possible diagnosis
  • Support to general practice staff with regards to accurately triage and prioritising patients, including in emergency situations
  • Provide clinical leadership as a Paramedic, seek quality improvement, and manage some aspects of the quality and outcomes framework to enhance services
  • Ensure that the practice integrates with community and local service providers to help utilise skill mix, improve patient outcomes, ensure better access to healthcare, and help manage workload
  • Identify any signposting, referrals, hospital admission or any other services identified within the care/healthcare pathway
  • Advise and provide support to members of the public/patients in leading healthy lifestyles, disease prevention and health promotion.
  • Maintain, update and monitor accurate systematic patient records of patient interactions, clinical care provided including adverse events
  • Fulfil the requirements of an experienced practitioner acting within his/her professional boundaries and competencies
  • Provide care to the presenting patient in their own home or in the surgery. This will include initial history taking, clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of care

The role is pivotal to improving the quality of care and operational efficiencies so requires motivation and passion to deliver excellent service within general practice.

About the Candidate

To be considered for this position, you will require the following: 

Essential:

  • Registered with the HCPC with an approved paramedic science degree or diploma
  • Ongoing continuing professional development (CPD)
  • Clinical experience and skills
  • Recent experience in ambulance services, emergency care, or prehospital care
  • Strong assessment and clinical decision-making skills
  • Primary care/community knowledge
  • Understanding of primary care pathways and community services
  • Ability to manage minor illnesses and injuries safely
  • Competence in history taking, examination, and assessment
  • Ability to make autonomous decisions in a primary care setting
  • Basic life support and emergency care skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication with patients and colleagues
  • Ability to provide patient education and advice
  • Competence in electronic patient records (e.g., SystmOne, EMIS)
  • Accurate clinical documentation and record-keeping
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team (MDT)
Desirable:
  • Advanced Clinical Training
  • Postgraduate level (Level 7) typically a Postgraduate Diploma or MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice (ACP)
  • Minor illness / Minor injury courses
  • Postgraduate or advanced practice courses, e.g., MSc Advanced Clinical Practice
  • Independent prescribing (V300) qualification
  • Previous work in GP surgeries, urgent care centres, or community teams
  • Experience in minor illness/injury clinics, chronic disease management, or home visits
  • ECG interpretation, phlebotomy, wound care, or vaccinations
  • Mentorship or practice educator experience
  • Quality improvement or audit projects
  • Research / Evidence-Based Practice
  • Participation in clinical audits, service evaluation, or research
  • Additional courses such as Advanced Life Support, PHTLS/ITLS, Safeguarding, Mental Health First Aid
