About the Role

Elizabeth Courtauld Surgery in Halstead, have an opportunity for a medical secretary to join the team on a full-time basis for 37.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday), although part-time hours can be considered. The successful candidate will join a practice that takes pride in its ‘can do’ attitude and forward-thinking. You will work within what can be a busy, often demanding, but highly rewarding environment. 

The role of a medical secretary is to be responsible for undertaking a wide range of secretarial and administrative duties and the provision of administrative support to the clinical and administration team.

Duties can include but are not limited to;

  • Processing of information (electronic and hard copy) in a timely manner.
  • Copy typing. 
  • Liaising with departments and external agencies such as secondary care and community service providers in accordance with current policies, including the use of the electronic referral system. 


About the Candidate
We would welcome applications from those with the following skills and experience:
  • Team player.
  • Committed and acts with integrity.
  • Lead by example with reference to promoting excellence in customer service, communication with patients, equality and diversity and patient confidentiality.
  • Applicants must be able to process medical referral letters using copy typing (with a minimum of 60wpm).
  • Excellent written English and grammar with the ability to adapt letters for clinicians.
  • Computer literate with working knowledge of Microsoft Office programmes (in particular Microsoft Word and Outlook).
  • Secretarial qualifications or secretarial background is an advantage.
